Mathematics Education

Wanty completed her Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education in two years, and graduated in 2002. The following is her statement regarding her learning experience at Boston University:

“Having done my master degree in education at BU School of Education has allowed me to develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills in teaching and learning mathematics. This experience enables me to expand my horizon in teaching and learning mathematics particularly on the importance of developing strategies based on reasoning and understanding not only on formal procedures.  I believe that having young promising Indonesian to experience BU Education will contribute to the improvement of Indonesian Education.”

Wanty is among the selected few women in Indonesia who pursues a higher degree in Mathematics Education. Recently she has taken up a lecturer position in mathematics education at Deakin University, Melbourne Australia in 2012. During one year stint at National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore (2011-2012), she had opportunity to work in collaborative research project with NIE colleagues involving schools in Singapore and Indonesia. While working in Australia, she hopes to continue her involvement with Indonesian education with colleagues in Indonesia and Asia Pacific.
