As the first recipient of the Kelly Elizabeth Stephens Memorial Scholarship, Evi has set an example on how to use her gained knowledge and skills from Boston University to improve education in Indonesia. In 2010, with a team of six people, Evi developed a program to recruit best Indonesian graduates from universities to do service as a teacher for 1 year in remote villages in Indonesia. This program is called Indonesia Mengajar (Indonesia Teaching).
She is now specifically responsible for the recruitment and selection of thousands of applicants for this program and also Community Engagement, since it's managed beyond a mere program but as a movement to encourage public to actively take a role in education in Indonesia.


Her contribution in most part is made possible due to the skills and knowledge that she learned from Boston University. According to Evi, they are as follow:
(1) Creative approaches in developing and implementing a development program that is not top down but by community participation, especially most of professional works are working with communities in Indonesian remote villages that vary from one place to another. There is no single template that works for all; (2) Through exploring and learning various situations and solutions in many other places in the world help to understand the similar challenges faced in many places in the world and at the same time how different the situations in each place are;
(3) Network of educational professionals around the world, since BU SED is known from its wide international community.
